Custom Cubbies uses Duratuff Select Vinyl Cladding

Custom Cubbies are a family owned and run Australian business that specializes in not only children's cubbies, but also in sheds, cabins and any other outdoor building you could need. Custom Cubbies now offer Duratuff Select Vinyl Cladding on all their products, helping owners benefit from maintenance free cubbies that last longer and look better.
The key concern in designing cubbies for children is safety and durability. Vinyl cladding will not rot, split or peel so there is no danger of splinters. On top of this it needs to last, cladding is designed to be impact resistant, colour fast and easy to clean.
One huge issue for Custom Cubbies was transportation. The Cubbies are pre-fabricated in their factory and shipped all over Australia. The shipping process often lead to damage to the exterior cladding, but with Vinyl this is rarely a problem since it doesn't scratch, dent or crack.
Shayne Price from Custom Cubbies has said "we are pushing Vinyl more than any other cladding product. It's ideal for children and makes our work so much easier. We pride ourselves on making cubbies that last and vinyl cladding has helped us do just that"
On top of residential cubbies, Custom Cubbies also do work with pre- schools, kindergartens and the government. Many Pre-schools specify vinyl cladding on their children's cubbies because it is much safer and can withstand the strain from hundreds of children.
Custom Cubbies aim to provide cost effective cubbies that can be purchased by almost anyone. They offer a unique no interest repayment option and cubbies to suit every budget. Vinyl Cladding is also an important factor in keeping prices low since it requires no staining or finishing and minimal labour.

Smart Home Owner Swaps Brick For Vinyl Cladding

A Central Coast couple recently decided to clad over their brick home with Duratuff Viny Wall Cladding, an unusual but smart choice that has breathed life into this once old and dark home.

The house had old and dull bricks that made it look tired and uninviting. The owners were told to render it, but they knew render was very expensive and high maintenance. They were also instructed to just paint the brick, but they didn’t want to be locked into years of peeling paint and repainting.

After much deliberation, they chose Cladding & Re-Roofing Pty Ltd to install Duratuff Select Vinyl Wall Cladding to cover their entire house, and chose the colour ‘Heather’, a soft gray that complimented their existing Colorbond fence. Cladding & Re-Roofing Pty Ltd was also able to provide them with the Dulux colour matched colour for their cladding, so they could paint the remaining footings to match the cladding.

Vinyl cladding is a lightweight cladding option which can be attached to most existing substrates easily. Vinyl cladding is especially popular on second story additions and extensions, since its light weight nature reduces the need for structural support, plus it requires no painting, sanding or sealing, so once it’s up, its finished, and your home is back to normal sooner.

Austech has worked hard to generate an extensive colour range, with 9 modern lighter colours, and 5 darker Colour Scapes colours, with built in UV-resistance. Every colour comes with a 50 year guarantee, so there is no need to paint for the life of the product.

Austech also has a range of accessories available, including corners, soffit, window trim. This home owner chose to go with the range of Designer Window Trims, a thicker trim that accentuates the windows and gives a stylish finish.

Bricks alone provide little insulation, and older homes normally have no wall insulation. Duratuff Select Vinyl Wall Cladding has a preinstalled expanded polystyrene backing, wrapping the house in insulation. This added insulation reduces the pressure on heating and cooling, reducing energy consumption and your carbon emissions.

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY VINYL CLADDING

Austech recognizes the need for environmentally friendly products, as Australia moves towards a green future. With the recognition of this movement comes as a solution in the form of Duratuff Select Vinyl Cladding.

Vinyl was first created in the 1920's and quickly became a key component in many products, including wall cladding. Vinyl is now the world's second most used plastic, but unlike its counterparts, Vinyl has many environmentally friendly features.
The main building block for vinyl is Chlorine, made from common salt. This makes up just under 60% of vinyl's chemical structure. Meaning it is a sustainable and cost effective product.

During manufacturing, Vinyl Cladding consumes less than half of the energy necessary to produce bricks and mortar. Vinyl Cladding is also much lighter than bricks and mortar, meaning reduced fuel consumption during transportation.
Vinyl Cladding's durability adds to its environmental credentials. Austech's range of Duratuff Select is guaranteed for 50 years, meaning it spends more time on your house, and less in a landfill. Vinyl Wall Cladding also never requires painting, saving time and labour costs plus the environmental damage from continuous painting.
Austech's Range of Duratuff Select Vinyl Cladding also comes with a preinstalled insulation backing. This higher insulation reduces household heating and cooling bills, saving money and the environment.

Recyclability is a key factor in Vinyl's sustainability. In America, more than 1 billion pounds of vinyl was recycled in the last year. In addition, much of the wastage from manufacturing can be recycled right back into the manufacturing process.
Contact the team at Austech today to organize a free quote for all your Vinyl Cladding needs on 9831 1623, or visit the Duratuff Website

Using Foamular to Maximise your Green Roof

Austech has recognised a new market in the Green Roof industry. As a proud supplier of Foamular we are here to help get the most out of your environmentally friendly project. Green roof gardens are becoming an increasingly popular roofing option for concrete roofs, with many modern cities demanding a percentage total of all roof space be green! A Green Roof made from Austech’s Foamular can have several key benefits such as:

           1.       Improving Air Quality
           2.       Benefits to biodiversity and surrounding wildlife
           3.       Energy conservation through improved thermal performance
           4.       Noise and sound Insulation

Green Roofs provide some insulation from the soil and plants, but to achieve the adequate R – value levels, added insulation is critical. Foamular’s Extruded Polystyrene is perfect due to its minimal water absorption and high R-values.

It is simply placed below the soil, but above the concrete, creating a continuous thermal barrier. Due to the high compressive strengths of the Extruded Polystyrene, this enables heavy pressure to be applied, and even with stand vehicular traffic.

Because the Extruded Polystyrene has no nutritional value to the plants, animals or bacteria, it doesn’t become degraded by their presence. Along with the very low water absorption potential (virtually 100%) it can function even in the presence of moist growing environments and water run- off areas.
For more information on Extruded Polystyrene, feel free to contact the friendly team at Austech or visit the Foamular website.

Foamular Extruded Polystyrene Contains 20% Recycled Content

Foamular Extruded Polystyrene from Austech External Building Products is now guaranteed to contain a minimum of 20% recycled content in addition to its other green qualities.
The recycled content comes from post production waste. When making the board perfectly flat and trimming of excess product there can be large amounts of wasted produced which normally go straight to landfill.
Foamular now recycles that waste directly back into the product, limiting the waste sent to landfill, but also reducing the raw materials required to produce the product.
Recycled post production waste is better than general waste because it is guaranteed to be clean and free of contaminants. This helps guarantee Foamular's high R-values and overall product quality, so projects can be green without sacrificing on quality.

Austech External Building Products also offer a range of Zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) Extruded Polystyrene for highly eco conscious projects. Polyboard Enviro 300 offers the high R-values and strength of traditional extruded polystyrene, but is made with a patented blowing agent that does not release any chemicals with Ozone Depletion Potential. Polyboard Enviro 300 can also be used towards Green Star accreditation and a range of other environmental credentials.

Foamular's Manufacturer, Owens Corning, have put into place a variety of measures to reduce their environmental impact, including; GHG emissions, water use, power use, waste to landfill, particle matter and volatile organic compounds. So far they have already met and exceeded most of their goals and are well on their way to achieving their ambitious 2013 targets.

Old Extruded polystyrene can also be easily recycled again and again with little effort. DWF airport reused 88% of the Extruded polystyrene on its 28,000+ square meter roof after 17 years of exposure to extreme conditions. Foamulars high R-values were maintained and its high compressive strength meant the boards had not disfigured at all. This was estimated to save the builder over $15,000 in landfill costs and $100,000 in labour costs.

Extruded polystyrene has an exceptionally long lifetime of 50+ years, so it doesn't need to be replaced often, reducing the need for landfill space or recycling of old material. Expanded polystyrene on the other hand only lasts around 7-12 years before it starts to degrade under regular conditions. Once expanded polystyrene degrades it lets in moisture, which causes a dramatic reduction in R-value and loss of physical form. This can cause severe problems to structures and reduces thermal efficiency.

Find out more about extruded polystyrene insulation or contact your local austech office for more information.

There are many factors to consider when looking for an effective way to cover the outside of your building or home. Most of us would opt for something that looks attractive, is also well protected and requires minimal maintenance. Facade cladding is the ultimate choice and Austech External Building Products have the perfect solution for you.

What is Facade Cladding?

Façade claddings are non load bearing panels that are fixed to the supporting structure. Generally, they are used for aesthetic purposes to add another dimension to a structure and should only have to support their own weight. Facade cladding can add more than just an attractive external appearance. The overall thermal and acoustic properties of a building can be importantly enhanced, especially with extra insulation installed behind it.

Types of Facade Cladding

Austech specialises in lightweight cladding systems. The Austech product range includes three superior façade cladding options to consider:
· Vinyl Cladding
· Stone Cladding
· Foamular Extruded Polystyrene - EIFS (External Insulation & Finishing System)

How to Decide What is Best for You

Some types of cladding are more economical than others and your budget will play a big part in choosing what the most suitable product is for you. For instance, the beauty and elegance of stone is hard to beat although for a cost effective solution, vinyl cladding can give a distinguished and classic look at a lower cost.

You must also consider the maintenance factor of your choice of cladding. Fortunately Austechs facade cladding range require little to no maintenance. Whereas other types of cladding, timber for example, will need regular cleaning and refinishing to keep it looking and working at its best. Vinyl Cladding will only need a hose down once in a while.

Why You Need Sub-Floor Ventilation

With one of Australia's wettest summers on record it has never been more important to ventilate your home. Sub-floor ventilation must be provided to enclosed sub-floor spaces. Moisture escapes from the soil and is absorbed by the air above, raising the relative humidity of the air. This in turn will raise the moisture content of the framing members and flooring. Ventilation is necessary to reduce the relative humidity of the cool air in the space, by replacing air with new warm drier air drawn from outside the space.

To improve sub-floor air quality and reduce humidity levels beneath the floor, Austech are offering the ecoFAN by Edmonds. The ecoFAN consists of an electronic, brushless, D.C. motor and a 23cm diameter, five blade fan, installed within an aluminium powder coated frame.

The condition of the air space beneath a home can impact on mould and fungi growth, termite action and even household allergies and respiratory problems. Poor sub-floor air circulation provides a conducive environment for the breeding and activity of termites. It can also give rise to stale and musty odours which permeate into living areas. The quantity, distribution and efficiency of the vents provided is extremely important for the stability and performance of timber floors, and to reduce the risk of decay and termite hazards.

The ecoFAN extracts 4,000 litres per minute of stale or damp sub-floor air. This air is replaced by clean, fresh, external air sucked through wall grilles placed opposite the ecoFAN. Even if allowed to run continuously, ecoFAN, which draws only 6.5W, will cost less than $A6 per annum in energy charges.

The ecoFAN is available from the Austech Online Store at a discounted price. Austech also offer many other great home improvement products. Visit the website to make an enquiry .

Foamular Extruded Polystyrene Used in $130 Million Westrac Project

Westrac , distributors of Caterpillar construction equipment, have combined with CIA Precast, Abigroup Builders and EJE Architecture to develop a massive $130 million project in Tomago, near Newcastle NSW. The first stage of the 115 hectare industrial estate is expected to be completed within three years. Austech have supplied Foamular Extruded Polystyrene, a superior insulation product, for the 2,500m2 of insulated precast panels.

EJE Architecture and Abigroup will be responsible for the design and construction of a new office, workshop and training facility on a 23 hectare site. The new facility will be the head office for WesTrac NSW, and also provide staff training via the WesTrac Institute. Stage one of the development will include the NSW headquarters of WesTrac, which is a major franchisee of global machinery company Caterpillar. Over 100 panels have been manufactured by CIA Precast of Tomago, many up to 16 tonnes in weight.

Foamular Extruded Polystyrene can be used to bridge the gap, providing superior thermal properties and increasing the overall thermal value all while maintaining construction efficiencies. "Once underway the process using Foamular Insulation and non conductive Reed pins was simple and efficient", stated Production Foreman of CIA Precast Steven Quick. The extruded polystyrene insulation is sandwiched between two concrete layers held together by non-conductive connector ties which minimize the energy-draining effects of thermal bridging.

The insulated sandwich panels greatly enhance the thermal mass performance of the concrete resulting in consistent internal temperature with reduced demand in energy use. These lower rates in energy use equate to lower greenhouse gas emissions.

Austech Building Products regularly supply Foamular to large commercial jobs throughout Australia. Visit the Foamular website to learn more about the product or simply make an enquiry to the experienced technical team at Austech.
